THURSDAY 2/2/2017, 6:00PM
Jazz Vespers, presented by Zion Lutheran Church of Pittsfield, will be on Thursday, February 2 at 6:00PM at St Stephen’s Episcopal Church located at 67 East St in Pittsfield. A casual meal will precede the service starting at 5:30, featuring entrees from a variety of local restaurants.
Zion Lutheran Church recently vacated its sanctuary as it prepares for a major renovation over the next several months. Zion Lutheran and St. Stephen’s Episcopal are working in partnership to continue worship on Sunday mornings as well as special services like Jazz Vespers.
“Vespers” is the name of an evening service, which specifically includes prayers for the close of the day that has been observed in the Christian tradition for at least the last 15 centuries. Jazz Vespers presented by Zion Lutheran Church incorporates modern elements of jazz and blues into this historic tradition, from the song arrangements, to the harmonies, to the instrumentation.
The Jazz Vespers ensemble includes Andy Wrba, bass; Marisa Massery, vocals; Katharine Wiencke, flute; and Ben Kohn, piano with guest appearances by other local musicians. Jazz Vespers and its musicians have been featured in the Berkshire Eagle, the Berkshire Beacon, Berkshire Magazine, and other local news sources.
There is never an admission fee or cover charge to attend Jazz Vespers. All free-will donations are used to directly support the Jazz Vespers ministry.
